What is wrong with LaDanian Tomlinson and Larry Johnson? Want to hear some mind-blowing statistics from this season? Let me entertain you for a minute! In three games, Tomlinson has a total of 130 yards rushing and is averaging 43.3 yards a game. His longest run of the season is 11 yards. Even Matt Leinart, which is known as a stationary Quarterback has a twenty yard run this year. Last year, L.T. had more rushing yards in his first game vs. Oakland (131 yards) than he has in 3 games this year. Simply stunning! Lets take a look at Larry Johnson. He has a total of 140 rushing yards thus far. This is opposed to 295 rushing yards last year by this time. He is averaging 2.8 yards a carry this season. Does this sound like a player that should be starting for an NFL team? Not to me. Let me rebut and explain why I think these two "Hall of Fame" backs are giving uncharacteristic lackluster efforts. It boils down down to the receiving corps. Quick...name one reciever for the San Diego Chargers or Kansas City Chiefs. Not so easy. Both of these teams lack a star receiver. Unless you call Dwayne Bowe (135 total yards) and Vincent Jackson (179 total yards) star receivers. These are the leading receivers for each team. Not to put the blame on the wide receivers, both teams have had poor Quarterback play. You may be asking "Both of these teams had the same talent at wide receiver last year, and the running backs put up Pro Bowl numbers". The answer is simple: Philip Rivers was playing better and the Chiefs had cannon-armed Trent Green. I am not saying that these teams need better receivers, I am saying that these teams need better play out of the receivers they already have. If the receivers can get better, defenses will be able to concentrate on the pass instead of just the run. I truly believe that L.T. and L.J. will turn it around this season, but it will take hard work from the Quarterbacks and receivers to make this happen.
