When Vince Young was asked by Jimmy Kimmel if he was scared of the Madden Curse, Young replied "I prayed about it and we will see what happens."Has the famous Madden Curse struck again? Vince Young injured his quadriceps running out of bounds against Tampa Bay. I was curious about the other victims of the curse so I found out...
It all started in 2000 when Barry Sanders and Dorsey Levens were on the cover. After this cover was released, Sanders surprisingly retired after only 10 seasons in the NFL. Levens only rushed for 224 yards after he was on the cover. He ran for 1,034 yards in 1999.
Eddie Geroge- Only averaged 3.3 yards a carry after gracing the cover of Madden. He only ran for 892 yards that year. He had a key fumble vs. Baltimore in the playoffs.
Daunte Culpepper- Fell with a knee injury after a 4-7 start.
Marshall Faulk- Hit the 1,000 yard rushing mark 7 out of 9 seasons, he never hit the mark again. Never really was the same.
Michael Vick- Injures his fibula in preseason and misses all but 5 games.
Ray Lewis- Broke wrist in the 14th game of season (Almost broke the curse...dang you Ray).
Donovan McNabb- Suffered a sports hernia in the first game of season and his season was over in week 10.
Shaun Alexander- Cracked a bone in his foot and missed his first start of his career. He has never been the same since.
Is this pure coincidence? I think so. Everyone that has been on the cover have been a running back, scrambling QB, or a linebacker. Everyone in the NFL will get hurt sometime in their career...especially RB's and scrambling QB's. Could Vince Young be the first person to break this curse? I sure do hope so.
